Official Berrien County criminal record questions belong with the government office that created or maintains the file. The County Clerk handles court records, the Sheriff's Records Division handles department reports, and Michigan State Police operates statewide criminal-history and registry systems. Use the routes below to reach the proper custodian.

This Is Not a Government Office. This private reference site cannot retrieve or correct a record, conduct an official check, issue a certified copy, or accept a Michigan set-aside filing. Contact the responsible government office directly.

Berrien County records are divided by record type and custodian:

  • Arrest reports and sheriff records: Berrien County Sheriff's Records Division, 919 Port Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085; 269-983-7141 ext. 7211; public lobby by appointment, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Court case files: Berrien County Clerk, Circuit Court counter, 811 Port Street, Room 123, St. Joseph, MI 49085; 269-983-7111 ext. 8368
  • Current custody: Berrien County Jail at 919 Port Street; 269-983-7141 ext. 7777
  • Statewide criminal history: Michigan State Police CJIC through ICHAT or an authorized fingerprint route
  • Police incident reports: the sheriff or city police agency that created the report
  • Michigan PSOR records: Michigan State Police and the proper local registering agency

Call the Sheriff's Records Division before traveling because the general division hours and the appointment-only public lobby hours differ. Court requests go to the clerk instead, since a sheriff report and a judicial case file are separate records.
